Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Euro-Pro Shark GI490 Professional Series Intelligent Electronic IronCustomer Review: Throwing My Shark Back Into The BOX . . . . Summary: 2 StarsAs if you needed another review to convince yourself NOT to buy this iron...but if you do, HERE it is! I have been on a mad hunt for a decent, affordable steam iron for days now after my 5 yr old Rowenta stopped working. I liked the look, steam features and weight of the Shark and decided to give it a try. Right out of the box, my Shark had issues: the cover to the water-fill hole would not snap shut - I knew then it was going to bring it back. However, I decided to turn it on to see how it actually worked. Well, as the directions inform you...you must run 3 tank fulls of water through the gills of the shark before it is ironworthy of clothing. This process takes forever....and the damn shark is still spitting out white, gritty toxic smelling plastic residue after it's third burping. The shark also started leaking profusely at one point. Then I read all the other negative reviews - and the ones stating how it burns out, catches on fire really scared me! Sharks should be avoided both at the beach and on the ironing board. I've come to the conclusion that developing a reliable, affordable ( $50 < ) steam iron has been beyond the reach of modern man to this point. Please, someone get on this project and get to work! Maybe that Dyson guy can figure something out! lololol ~
Customer Review: Awful Iron Summary: 1 StarsI have fought this iron for a year and now it's time to junk it, for 2 reasons.
1. The temperature control button is on the front of the handle right where your hand goes. Without knowing, it's easy to push the button and change the temperature. If you're ironing something on low, you'll suddenly be ruining it on high. Put it on high and grab the iron a few times and you'll turn the power down to low.
2. The spray button stopped working properly after 90 days. It would depress but not return. So, to get it to return, I would have to hit it with the palm of my hand several times. I have to do this several times throughout the process of ironing a shirt.
It seems ridiculous to spend so much on an iron that doesn't function well. After having two Shark irons and a Shark vacuum, all of which functioned poorly, I'm done!
Customer Review: Sore thumb! Summary: 1 StarsI bought this product at Target. I can't say that the iron is faulty; just the design of it is not friendly. It does not produce enough steam on its own and I have to keep my thumb on the "extra steam" button in order for it smooth the wrinkles, hence, a sore thumb with extended time with ironing. It also tips over easily resulting in 2 nasty burns from it falling on my hand while positioning an article of clothing. I've been advised to purchase a Rowneta next time.
Customer Review: Deceived Summary: 1 StarsMy Rowenta finally gave up the ghost after years of use and abuse. It kept on working even after being dropped and snapped back together. It had parts that broke completely off and I still got great use of it for over 10 years. I saw the Shark at Kmart and because it was in the same price range as my Rowenta and the box said great things, I bought it, thinking it was a quality iron. I babied it so it would last longer and it was great.... for about 2 weeks. After that it started leaking heavily and it turns off randomly during use. I hate it. I am stuck with the worst iron I have ever had.
Customer Review: Not bad if you only need it for a year.... Summary: 2 StarsWorked great...until it stopped working. Thought because of the retail price I paid ($80), weight, and steam output that it was of pretty high quality. But it mysteriously wouldn't turn back on after only year of use...not even heavy duty use either. Buyer beware.
