I don't normally write reviews on products, but I just had to with this product after years of frustration with blenders.
I just received the blender I purchased from Kohl's online. I have always looked for the best blender I could find, I have bought all the gimmicky blenders and name brand top of the lines, and they burned up or didn't work as expected.
I like my ice blended at particular consistency for different types of drinks, and I usually end up with inconstant ice chunks. The Ninja was far cheaper than so called "Professional" blenders and I was leery about the claims of the Ninja and it being just another gimmicky blender.
The first thing I did with the blender was to load it full of ice and crush it as the initial test. I never saw infomercials on this product so I didnt know what to expect.
Unbelievable! It worked better than I could have ever expected. I was able to get every range of consistently of crushed ice from course chips, all the way down to fine "Snow" ice. I did discover from a tip on line, that you should blend the ice before adding any liquids, a good tip.
Most blenders have the 4 blade at the bottom and ice can't churn down to be crushed by the blades, and you have to stir or use other messy methods to get ingredients down to the blades to blend a drink.
The design of the Ninja is genius. It has the motor on top where it is less susceptible to liquids spilling over into it. The blades are staggered and spaced for very efficient chopping and blending action. The motor mates with the blades easier and more positive than traditional blender pitchers. The pitcher has a wide base and sits anywhere without the fear of toppling over. Clean up is as expected, very easy.
I have not tried the food processer attachment yet, but I know it too will work better than expected. The food processor was not my primary reason for buying the blender but my wife is excited about using the food processor for dips and salsa.
It is a well designed machine, but I will hold my opinion on the plastic pitcher, and parts until I have had it for a while. They could make them with Stainless Steel parts as a more expensive version and I would buy it, but from what I have seen so far it seems like the plastic design will work longer than my past blenders.
The saying "You get what you pay for" is generally true, but not with blenders! With the Ninja blender you get more than you pay for.
