I enjoy the ease of slow cookers because I can prep it the night before in the inner pot, place the inner pot with this lid on in the refrigerator overnight, then in the morning, take it out and slip it into the outer pot and turn it on and leave for work! I took some time researching different slow cookers and settled on this one because you can program the exact number of hours you would like it to cook for, as well as choosing the temperature (warm, low, medium, high). One caveat is remembering to press the "start" button after you program your number of hours, because it could be easy to forget that step and if you do, it won't start. :) It works great for me since I have an "out-of-the-house" job so I can set it to a specific time so that it will stop cooking by itself and just keep warm until I get home. I don't need to worry about rushing home to turn it off so my food doesn't 'overcook' and become overly mushy. My food is always cooked exactly as I want it! I can go and run some errands after work and come home to a great dinner! It's also a nice big size so there's always lots of leftovers. I usually just let my leftovers cool down, take the inner pot out, put the glass lid on and put it right in the refrigerator. The glass lid does not have a 'steam vent/ hole' but the lid is slightly smaller than the pot (it can be slid around) so I believe it was made this way on purpose so that the steam (which I have observed myself) can come out of the side of the lid. So, be aware of this when you decide where to place it. I would definitely not recommend traveling with this cooker nor just with the insert/ inner pot and lid so if that is a feature you're looking for, do not get this one. (I knew I wouldn't need that feature so I chose to not go in that direction.) The only negative thing I can say about it is that the inner pot is quite heavy to wash (but still do-able), but I think that's the case with pretty much every slow cooker out there (unless you want to purchase a smaller slow cooker).
With regard to the small "bonus" slow cooker that came with it, I gave it away immediately after receiving it because it seemed too small to be to be useful for anything I could think of (maybe melting a tiny amount of chocolate or cheese) and it seemed that it may be difficult to wash (the inner pot is not separate from the outer pot) so it seemed to be too much of a hassle for me. The lid of the small cooker is made of thin platic.
