Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Euro-Pro F1066 5-Liter Electronic Stainless Steel Deep FryerCustomer Review: Good item -- but read the manual Summary: 5 Stars
For the poor folks who are complaining about the "EEE" display, I haven't had the same problems. Customer support for this has been really professional and prompt at the 800 number. The "EEE" problem is a result of people not reading the instructions about not immersing the control panel in water. Don't do it. The panel is electronic and electronics don't work when they're filled with water.
This unit is a good, solid fryer which I've had no problems with.
The pros:
Easy to use, easy to clean up. Nothing has baked to my frier or my friends friers (death by EEE). Even when frying "trouble" items like pastry or breaded items, the basket comes clean easilly. The controls have positive engagement and are hard to accidentally push. The unit makes a loud beeping when buttons are pushed and has a distinctive alarm. You shouldn't leave the frier unattended, but you have enough peace-of-mind that you can work on other things in the kitchen while the fryer is working. Another bonus is that suggested cooking tempetures are printed right on the unit so when the manual gets lost, you have some idea what did what. The window is also a lifesaver as it lets you see what the oil is doing just in case anything goes wrong.
The cons:
The power chord is the most annoying bit and can be plugged in upside down. Don't do it. It says "This side up" clearly on the chord, but if you are absent minded or have limited eyesight, this might be an issue. The only other problem is that the controls (the power button) faces the frying basket. This is more of a pet-peeve then anything but if you need to get control of the unit in a hurry, you do not want to be reaching through hot oil splatter. My suggestion: Keep it on it's own power strip so you have yet another button in case of emergency. Sadly, this gripe applies to almost all friers. I also wish the lid was a bit better designed, the lid drops the inevitable condensation from the water into the oil until you get used to tipping it out (towards the basket handle). Once you get the hang of it, the condensation dropping into the oil can be avoided.
This frier, despite a few minor shortcomings, is excellent. One of the nice features is that it heats up quickly and can maintain that heat even when adding and pulling out food. The caution to that is that when the oil is disagreeable, it heats up quickly. Be sure to supervise the frier. I managed to do the boneheaded thing of chopping up mushrooms, washing them, and tossing them in without thinking about it and managed to cause quite a show in the kitchen. Had I actually read the manual, there's a blurb in there to make sure food is completely thawed and dried which I did not heed.
If you respect the power here, it's a great unit.
